June 23-July 9 - Bennington
"Oldcastle Theatre Company Presents: Moonlight & Magnolias"
"Moonlight and Magnolias," which the Chicago Sun Times called a " hyperventilating slapstick comedy, an impassioned love song and a blazing critique of Hollywood,” tells the story of producer David O. Selznick shutting down production of his new epic "Gone with the Wind". The screenplay, sadly, just doesn't work. So the all-powerful movie mogul, while fending off the film's stars, gossip columnists and his own father-in-law sends a car for screenwriter Ben Hecht and pulls formidable director Victor Fleming from the set of "The Wizard of Oz." Summoning both to his office, he locks the door, closes the shades, and on a diet of bananas and peanuts, the three labor over five days to fashion a screenplay that will become a blueprint for one of the most successful and beloved films of all time. The cast includes Nathan Stith, who last season directed Oldcastle's production of "39 Steps" and Richard Howe, Oldcastle's Associate Artistic Director. oldcastletheatre.org

"Grandma Moses: American Modern at the Bennington Museum"
Grandma Moses: American Modern is a long–overdue exhibition reexamining the beloved American artist Anna Mary Robertson "Grandma" Moses and reestablishing her to her rightful place within the canon of mid-century American Modern Art. The exhibition counters Moses's marginalization as strictly a "folk" artist and a phenomenon within popular culture through the presentation of fresh research and in-depth analyses of Moses's celebrated artworks and unique painting techniques to address the myth of the self-taught artist through a modernist lens. Grandma Moses: American Modern also contextualizes Moses within the modern art era by pairing her paintings and ephemera alongside fellow "folk artists" as well as her modernist contemporaries such as Joseph Cornell, Helen Frankenthaler, Joseph Pickett, and Any Warhol. Together with the works in the permanent gallery dedicated to the life and work of Grandma Moses, the Museum will have on view over 65 works by this great American modern folk artist. benningtonmuseum.org

"Shakespeare on Main Street of Vermont Presents Hamlet"
Over 400 years after William Shakespeare wrote the play readers and audiences are still connecting with it.

The play tells the story of Prince Hamlet, but he's no party-boy prince. We discover that his dad (the King of Denmark) has been murdered by his own brother and Hamlet's uncle, Claudius. And it gets worse.

Shakespeare on Main Street sets the play in modern day, drawing the audience to explore how Shakespeare's words are relevant to today. The key themes behind Hamlet are the price of vengeance, effects of deception, madness and the consequences of corruption. The themes that Shakespeare expresses in Hamlet are just as relevant to today’s society, perhaps even more so. Come join us this summer for an exploration of the human spirit and what happens when it is challenged.
Show dates and times are: Sat, July 22 7:30 pm, and Sun, July 23 at 2pm at Hunter Hall at Maple Street School, 322 Maple Street, Manchester Center, Vermont. Tickets are $18 for Adults, and $12 for Ages 18 & Under. ShakespeareOnMainStreet.org

Your run will take you from the downtown community to picturesque village settings to country roads past farm lands back to the finish. Adding to the beauty, Vermont will be in the early stages of fall foliage. Organization is excellent, and the course is scenic and enjoyable. There is something for everyone in this rural Vermont tour. It’s one of those "must do" New England races. manchestervtmapleleaf.com
